PKR questions slow pace of vaccination in Sarawak
KUCHING: Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has questioned the state government over the slow pace of the Covid-19 national immunisation programme in Sarawak.
Its communication chief James Stephen said this and the delay in getting the vaccine was unacceptable, and should be expedited.
He thus urged the Sarawak government to act swiftly as it involves the people’s health.
“Three months have passed, but the vaccination process is still going at a very slow rate.
“The vaccination needs to be done quickly and according to the set schedule to ensure fast economic recovery,” he said in a statement yesterday.
James also said the sudden increase in positive cases and deaths due to Covid-19 in the state clearly shows the situation in Sarawak was at an alarming state.
“It shows that approaches taken by the Perikatan Nasional government and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) have failed in tackling the spread of the virus.”
He added the implementation of movement control order (MCO) and the state of emergency were just a ploy of the government to cling to power.
“The government’s vaccination plans are unclear and sloppy. Malaysia should emulate the speed of the United States in the vaccination process, which has contributed to the decrease in cases and increase in herd immunity.
The Sarawak government should also enhance its logistical capacity to coordinate with hospitals, treatment facilities, public health clinics, general practitioners and pharmacies in expediting the vaccination process, he added.
