TAIPING: The Taiping Zoo & Night Safari is expected to receive additional visitors of up to 20 per cent through its virtual zoo platform, MyZooTaiping, which was launched yesterday.

State Housing, Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi said the platform would change the dimension of tourism and recreation as well as increase the number of visitors to the zoo which has now reached 20,000 people since it was reopened on Monday.

“The 24-hour online platform was developed in cooperation with Ecotourism and Conservation Society Malaysia (ECOMY), with a design and additional components that provide educational inputs.

“It offers four main focuses, namely zoo as a centre for recreation, education, research and wildlife conservation. The research and conservation aspects that are rarely shown to the public can be highlighted directly to customers through this digital platform.

“This initiative is expected to provide benefits in sustainably increasing the zoo’s revenue, reducing the impact and risk of closure, increasing the value and exposure of the zoo brand to the international stage as well as spreading awareness on natural heritage and wildlife,” she said.

She was speaking to reporters after launching the virtual zoo platform in conjunction with the International Zoo Day 2021 here yesterday.

In another development, Nolee Ashilin said the state government was always ready if the federal government decided to allow international tourists to visit Pangkor Island.

However, she said the matter depended on the approval of the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, adding that the state government and industry players had made preparation in terms of the standard operating procedure (SOP) and monitoring committee.
