KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 493 Covid-19 cases yesterday, the first time since August this year that the state recorded less than 500 daily cases, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

SDMC in its daily Covid update said the last time Sarawak recorded below 500 daily cases was on Aug 3 with 494.

From yesterday’s figure, 481 cases were in Category 1 (asymptomatic) or Category 2 (mild symptoms), three in Category 3 (pneumonia), seven in Category 4 (pneumonia and requiring oxygen) and two in Category 5 (pneumonia and requiring ventilator support), said the committee.

Despite the dip in daily cases overall, Kuching district still recorded 128 cases, followed by Miri with 82, Sibu (60), Bintulu (30), Lawas (26), Mukah (25), Sarikei and Kanowit (16 each), Serian (13), Saratok (12) and Betong (11).

The districts of Pakan and Dalat recorded eight cases each while Tanjung Manis and Subis recorded seven cases each. Meradong had five new cases.

SDMC also said two Covid clusters ended yesterday, namely the Kampung Muara Tebas 2 Cluster in Kuching and Batu 10 Jalan Oya Cluster in Sibu.

Another 36 clusters remain active but no new cases were reported from them yesterday, it added.

The committee also reported that one longhouse in Sarikei, namely Rumah Jengayang, Jalan Sungai Rusa, has been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from Oct 26 to Nov 1.

Two longhouses in Julau had their EMCO lifted yesterday, namely Rumah Mem, Sungai Aboi Sibau Manis, KM4, Jalan Entabai and Rumah Jeffery, Nanga Sengaih, Entabai.

“Another two longhouses also had their EMCO lifted today (Oct 25), namely Rumah Jilum, Sebemban Tumbak, Pantu in Sri Aman and Rumah Awan, Sungai Stok in Sarikei.

“The EMCO was also lifted for the Muara Lassa Bridge CRBC Construction Site at Jalan Itol, Daro,” said SDMC.
