High time for new face in Senadin, says PBDSB president
MIRI: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB) is calling on voters in Senadin to vote for a new face in the next state election which is rumoured to be held end of this year.
President Bobby William, who is the party’s candidate for the seat, said it is high time that Senadin be led by a new leader to bring about reform and transformation.
“The incumbent Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin had been the ‘wakil rakyat’ for Senadin for five consecutive terms (20 years).
“20 years is a very long time, and PBDSB believes that in the spirit of democracy, Lee should relinquish his iron claw to give way to a fresh start and a new leader,” said Bobby in an interview yesterday.
Lee was first elected as the Senadin assemblyman in 1996, and is expected to retain the seat in the next state election.
When asked about his preparation in facing the next state polls, Bobby said if Lee were to contest again for the seat, he would be facing a ‘Goliath’.
“I know I will be fighting a ‘Goliath’ and I know Senadin is not a majority Dayak seat. However, I have the confidence given that the Chinese voters are matured,” he said.
He believed Senadin would see at least three-cornered fight.
“Not just Senadin, but most likely other seats too will be having three-cornered fights. It is really up to the voters to vote the candidate whom they think can bring positive changes not just politically but also in terms of social and economy,” he said.
The Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) five-year term expired in June this year but the election was postponed following the declaration of Emergency for the state by Yang di-Pertuan Agong until Feb 2 next year.
