More mini parks, recreational areas to be built in Miri — Ting

More mini parks and recreational spaces will be built in housing areas and open spaces under the Miri City Council’s (MCC) jurisdiction, said Datuk Sebastian Ting.

We will continue to look for open spaces in housing areas to be turned into mini parks and recreation (spaces), so that residents there can have a place to exercise and carry out their recreational activities.

The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts said so far, over 10 such facilities have been developed under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP).

“We will continue to look for open spaces in housing areas to be turned into mini parks and recreation (spaces), so that residents there can have a place to exercise and carry out their recreational activities,” he said when visiting a newly-completed facility at Jalan Kampung Luak 3 here Wednesday.

The Piasau assemblyman said mini parks and recreational spaces are among the government’s priorities in order to provide a conducive living environment in residential and housing areas.

However, he explained not all open spaces can be converted due to existing provisions.

“The important thing is that once the park is completed, residents living near these parks must work together with the authorities in ensuring that facilities and equipment at the parks are not vandalised,” he said.

On the mini park and recreational space at Jalan Kampung Luak 3, Ting said the project which started in December last year costs RM150,000.

It features workout equipment, a children’s playground, and a jogging track.
