Service termination upon failure to perform, waste disposal contractors warned

-

PADAWAN: Contractors found to have failed in carrying out the tendered waste disposal initiative in the Annah and Biya areas would have their contracts revoked immediately, said Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.

The Deputy Minister of Transport Sarawak cautioned the appointed contractors against treating their responsibilities lightly, emphasising that failure to fulfil their tasks postpayment would not be tolerated.

“I have to warn them (contractors) because I don’t want them to take their job very lightly, where in the end they don’t collect the rubbish although the payments have been done.

“We don’t want that to happen. If that happens, we will cancel the contract immediately,” Dr Jerip told reporters after the handover of the Waste Disposal Contracts for Annah/ Tibia area at the Padawan Sub-district Office here yesterday.

The waste disposal initiative came about due to the challenges faced by Trienekens trucks in navigating the winding, steep and hazardous roads in the Annah and Biya areas.

As a solution, 11 villages in the areas were yesterday given two trash bins each, with Trienekens supplying a total of 66 bins, weighing 11kg each.

The villages are Kampung Sadir, Kampung Sibuang, Kampung Simuti, Kampung Sibakar, Kampung Assum, Kampung Sapit, Kampung Parang, Kampung Kiding, Kampung Kakas, Kampung Kamas and Kampung Nusaraya.

According to Dr Jerip, the villages previously managed their own waste disposal, which was deemed less suitable for the environment, unhygienic and hazardous.

“So, what we will do after this is a ‘gotong royong’ to clear the previous waste into the provided trash bins.

“The contractors will then put the rubbish in their gunnies and send them to the main collection centre in Kampung Annah Rais and Kampung Abang,” he said.

Meanwhile, a total of 13 contractors had received their appointment letters for the waste disposal initiative, amounting to RM132,480 for the 11 villages throughout 2024.

Each contractor will be tasked with the waste disposal twice a week, and payments will be facilitated through the Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant which was channelled to the Padawan Sub-district Office.
