Tengku Hassanal visits SBC, Semenggoh Wildlife Centre
Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Ibni Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah yesterday visited the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) and Semenggoh Wildlife Centre along Jalan Puncak Borneo here.
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), these visits are part of Tengku Hassanal’s official visit to Kuching which started on Monday.
The Regent was accompanied on his visit to SBC by Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, and Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.
The delegation was welcomed by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Len Talif Salleh, as well as the centre’s staff members.
Tengku Hassanal was briefed on SBC’s operations, including its algae cultivation, research facilities and product offerings, and was also given a tour of the centre’s facilities.
At the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, the prince had the opportunity to meet three orangutans named Seduku, Sem, and Edwin – whom the centre’s attending officers described as remarkable as it was rare to catch the sight of the wildlife, especially during the current fruit season.
Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) chief executive officer Abang Arabi Abang Aimran and Sarawak Forest Department director Datu Hamden Mohammad later briefed the prince about the wildlife centre’s operations, as well as the list of designated forest reserves in Sarawak.
Later in the afternoon, Tengku Hassanal visited Fort Margherita and attended a high tea reception with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
