KPMG Malaysia announces new leadership line-up

PETALING JAYA: KPMG in Malaysia announced the election of Foong Mun Kong as its incoming Managing Partner with effect from January 1, 2025.

He will succeed Datuk Johan Idris who will transition to become the Malaysia firm’s non-executive chairman at the end of his tenure as managing partner on December 31, 2024.

Foong is currently the firm’s head of audit, a role he held since 2014. He started his career at KPMG and has contribute­d his expertise in various profession­al practice roles at the Malaysian Institute of Accountant­s (MIA), Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountant­s (MICPA) and the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (MASB).

Johan Idris said, “I’m extremely pleased to welcome Mun Kong as my successor with the full confidence that his expertise and leadership will benefit KPMG and the clients our profession­als serve. This passing of the torch is part of the firm’s one-year succession plan to ensure that KPMG remains on solid footing to drive continued business growth in Malaysia.”

Foong added, “It’s an honour to be elected the incoming Managing Partner of KPMG in Malaysia, a firm that has been the foundation of my own career. I’m grateful for the trust placed in me by my fellow partners and shall endeavor to build on the strong foundation Datuk Johan has put in place by harnessing the full breadth of our multi-disciplina­ry model to deliver sustainabl­e value to our clients.”

Johan Idris, who has been with KPMG since 1999, will take on the chairman role as part of the firm’s leadership transition.

He brings a wealth of experience having served as a member of the KPMG ASPAC Board and a Council Member of KPMG Internatio­nal.

He was the President of the Malaysian Institute of Accountant­s (MIA) for the 2013 to 2015 term and further extends his counsel as a Member of the Board of Directors at the National University of Malaysia (UKM) and as a University Senate Member and Board of Trustee of INCEIF.
