Issup course highlights collaborative effort to combat substance-use disorders
KUCHING: The ‘UPC-6 Workplace-based Substance Use Prevention Intervention Train the Trainer Course’ in Kuala Lumpur featured 14 participants, including six healthcare and medical professionals from Pakistan.
It was organised by the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (Issup), who deemed the course held at KL Journal Hotel ‘a huge success’.
“This intensive five-day training, which began on Jan 14 and ended Jan 18, signifies a major step forward in the field of prevention science, showcasing a collaborative effort to combat substance-use disorders globally.
“The course was expertly conducted by two renowned global master trainers of the Universal Prevention Curriculum, demonstrating a commitment to global standards in substance use prevention,” said Issup Malaysia in a statement.
The course is the first in a series of innovative trainings planned by Issup Malaysia for 2024, with the sessions strategically designed to enhance national capacity in implementing evidence-based prevention interventions across schools, communities, and workplaces.
“This initiative is more than just a training programme; it’s a movement towards creating healthier, safer, and more productive environments.
“By equipping professionals with the latest evidence-based prevention strategies, we are setting the stage for a profound societal impact,” it added.
Issup Malaysia said the inclusion of international participants, especially from Pakistan, highlights the global relevance of prevention science and underscores the need for cross-cultural collaboration in addressing substance-use disorders.
“As we celebrate this milestone, our focus shifts to the future of prevention science. Issup Malaysia invites the media, healthcare professionals, educators, and policymakers to engage in this transformative journey.
“By spotlighting the Universal Prevention Curriculum, we aim to ignite a widespread interest in this vital field,” it added.
