Mydin celebrates Pongal with Bombay Bazaar in 6 states
KUALA LUMPUR: Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad recently hosted the ‘Bombay Bazaar’ in conjunction with the Pongal celebration at its hypermarket chains in Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Selangor, Perak and Penang.
Mydin managing director Datuk Dr Ameer Ali Mydin, in his speech prior to the launching of the bazaar at Mydin USJ Subang Jaya here recently, highlighted the local wholesale and retail chain’s commitment in celebrating cultural diversity.
“This is our annual event for the Pongal celebration which we have organised to mark our appreciation to our Indian customers, where we also aim to strengthen the spirit of unity among the people of various races and religions in this country. The Pongal festival symbolises abundance and is celebrated as a gesture of gratitude for nature and daily life’s blessings. I hope that we will be abundantly blessed and that we are given the opportunity to share our blessings with those who are less fortunate,” he said.
This year’s Bombay Bazaar, Ameer said, synergised with the ‘Warna-Warni Deepavali’ campaign, bringing together Indian entrepreneurs from various business segments to promote and market their products.
“Honestly, I am very impressed to see the entrepreneurs’ dedication in introducing their products, which I admit is not an easy task but one that requires hard work and efforts,” he said.
He also extended his congratulations to Taaka Lee Sdn Bhd, a co-organiser of the event, for having been awarded an entry in the Malaysia Book of Records for gathering over 300 entrepreneurs from various digital platforms at the event.
The event offered various promotions on Indian food and traditional clothes, and was enlivened by cultural performances from the Indian community, cooking demonstrations, as well as the display of ‘kolam’ creativity.
