Malaysia Airports donates school supplies to SK Tabuan Jaya pupils
KUCHING: Malaysia Airports, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme ‘MYAirportCARES Ceria Kembali ke Sekolah’, contributed school supplies to 150 primary school students from SK Tabuan Jaya here yesterday.
The donation, worth nearly RM90,000, involved the schoolchildren from Primary 1 to Primary 6.
Each pupil received school supplies valued at RM300, along with a smart card pre-loaded with RM300 for purchasing books and food at their school canteen.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd chairman Tan Sri Datuk Zainun Ali presented the smart cards.
The ceremony was attended by Malaysia Airports management and volunteers, including its staff in Kuching, as well as the teachers of SK Tabuan Jaya.
It was informed that the recipients were chosen based on the criteria set by Malaysia Airports, in collaboration with the MyKasih Foundation, focusing on children in the B40 (low household income) category from all across Kuching District, where the Kuching International Airport (KIA) was operating at.
In his remarks, Zainun said programme was under the ‘MYAirportCARES: Community and Youth Empowerment Through Education’ – an initiative meant to support the local community.
“The programme seeks to alleviate the financial burden off the B40 parents, while boosting the children’s enthusiasm for learning by ensuring that they have the necessary supplies and also an environment conducive to learning.
“As a government-linked organisation, Malaysia Airports are committed to sustaining and expanding such initiatives in the future,” she said.
She added that since 2018, the ‘MYAirportCARES Ceria Kembali ke Sekolah’ programme had benefited over 3,000 primary school students in the B40 households.
“Furthermore, the programme has positively impacted 39 selected schools in proximity to airports operated by Malaysia Airports.”
Mykasih Foundation deputy chairman Jeff Perrera, Malaysia Airports corporate communications general manager Shukreen Ma, KIA manager Jun Iskandar Murshidi, and SK Tabuan Jaya headmaster Mustapha Imbun, were present.
