KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Disaster Management Committee is now on high alert for potential floods and other disasters in areas under its jurisdiction.

Kuching South mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, in a press conference yesterday, said the council had installed banners across seven MBKS zones, displaying the names and faces of the relevant councillors along with their contact numbers, whom the residents could contact in cases of disasters hitting their areas.

“This action is taken in anticipation of the monsoon season, which is expected to bring more rainfall than usual, leading to potential disasters. The establishment of this disaster committee aligns with our slogan for this year, ‘MBKS We Care’.

“This initiative also involves collaboration with the local community leaders in each zone who will assist the councillors.

“Apart from it aligning with our current endeavours of preventing and minimising losses, this committee also aims to expedite the distribution of aid to the victims and carry out swift recovery operations.

“It is the responsibility of our council members, so make sure that if you need to report an incident, use the proper channels. Do not rely on intermediaries or Facebook, as we would not entertain such communications,” he pointed out.
