MR D.I.Y’s ‘Wo AI Ni’ CNY webflick registers over 7 million views
LUMPUR: MR D.I.Y.’s Chinese New Year webfilm, titled ‘Wo Ai Ni’ (‘I Love You’ in Mandarin) has amassed over seven million views shortly after its debut on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook and Xiaohongshu.
Running for five minutes and 23 seconds, the short movie revolves around a boy named Hong and his family convening for their annual Chinese New Year’s Reunion at his grandfather’s residence.
The usually-stern former headmaster, known for instilling a disciplined, military-like routine, surprises everyone this year by being unusually expressive with his family.
The ‘Grandpa’ offers compliments, engages in discussions about his daughter’s mental health, and even joins in a trendy dance with his grandchildren.
Perturbed by his unusual behavior, the family does some digging – only to discover that ‘Grandpa’ has been seeking advice on love through an artificial intelligence [AI] programme.
The film concludes with ‘Grandpa’ explaining his actions and also expressing love to his family with a heartfelt ‘I love you all.’
