MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) is encouraging ratepayers to register for e-billing and update their details to ensure that all assessment rate notices and letters would reach them.

Ratepayers are also advised to update their phone numbers, email addresses, and correspondence addresses with the Rating and Valuation Department as part of efforts to provide effective and efficient public services to the residents here, says Mayor Adam Yii.

In the full council meeting yesterday, he called upon ratepayers to use the SPay Global app, the Service Sarawak website, or the Pay Bills Malaysia website to make payments online, so as to avoid standing in long queues at the counters.

“The assessment bill for 2024 is now available. For the convenience of ratepayers, the Rating and Valuation Department will open mobile counters this Feb 3 to 4 at Emart Riam, and Feb 24 to 25 at Emart Tudan, from 10am to 5pm daily. The officers will assist in checking the assessment rates of properties and guide the ratepayers for on-the-spot payments via SPay Global.

“I would like to thank all Mirians for their contribution in paying their assessment rates as it helps in developing Miri into a lovely resort city,” said Yii.

In addition, MCC and Borneo Parking Systems Sdn Bhd would launch a new smart parking system known as the ‘Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) Smart Car Park System’ this Feb 1 at the council’s multi-storey carpark.

Yii said the system had been in use since May 1 last year, and received very positive response from the public and also the visiting Bruneians.

Meanwhile, the MCC woukld launch a lucky draw campaign as an incentive for individuals to settle outstanding parking fees.

To be running from Feb 1 until April 30, the campaign would allow vehicle owners to settle outstanding parking compounds in full during this period, and in doing so, would automatically make them eligible for the lucky draw and stand a chance to win various prizes.

The top prize is a Modenas Kriss MR3, with a 50-inch Smart TV as the second prize, a 10kg washing machine as the third prize, an electric oven as the fourth, and a fruit juicer as the fifth.

The sixth-place winner would receive 10 monthly parking couponsn, whereas those taking the seventh to ninth place would receive digital parking reloads worth between RM200 and RM500.

“The ‘Pay Your Parking Outstanding 2.0’ campaign is meant to raise awareness of the new ‘Borneo Park Miri’ mobile application.

“The council would like to encourage vehicle owners to check their outstanding parking compound and make payments using the ‘Borneo Park Miri’ app, which can be installed from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

“Alternatively, payments can also be made at any parking booth in Miri or at Level 3A of Borneo Parking Systems Sdn Bhd office here,” said the MCC.
