CNY Sejambak Kasih programme channels aid to 150 recipients in Kuching

KUCHING: A total of 150 monthly welfare aid recipients in Kuching each received contributi­ons at the Chinese New Year (CNY) ‘Sejambak Kasih’ 2024 programme here yesterday.

Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Developmen­t Sarawak Datuk Mohamad Razi Sitam officiated at the event.

In his speech, he said the programme meant to alleviate financial burden of the welfare aid recipients and also bring joy to them during this festive season.

“A total of 2,736 individual­s, or 25.74 per cent, of the welfare aid recipients in Kuching benefitted from the CNY Sejambak Kasih 2024 programme.

“At today’s event, a total of 150 monthly welfare aid recipients from Kuching will receive these contributi­ons as a symbolic gesture – each of whom being given RM100 in cash, along with a hamper worth RM80,” he said.

Later, Razi also presented a launching grant to recipient Lim Chin Huw under the ‘Food Project’ for his ‘acar timun’ (cucumber pickle) business, in which Lim received equipment worth RM5,000 to kick-start the operation.

Razi also said throughout last year, the Welfare Department (JKM) Sarawak had recorded total expenditur­e of RM254,927,850 to assist 56,169 monthly aid recipients throughout the state.

“For Kuching region alone, in the past year, JKM Kuching had recorded total expenditur­e of RM4,262,300 to assist 10,631 monthly aid recipients,” he added.

Among others who were present were JKM Sarawak director Adana Jed, Sarawak Mufti Department director Mual Suaud, Kuching Resident Norlela Shariff, and Kuching Chinese chief Temenggong Dato Tan Joo Phoi.
