JCI Sibu event fosters business networking among youth

SIBU: Junior Chamber Internatio­nal (JCI) Sibu recently held a business networking event cum Chinese New Year celebratio­n, titled ‘Empower Youth Connect’.

The event was designed to foster entreprene­urial spirit among youth and broaden the horizons of business networking, which stands as a testament to the collaborat­ive efforts of JCI Sibu, JCI Mandarin Sibu, JCI Seduan, and JCI Sibu Jaya.

JCI Sibu chairman Elden Lau, in his opening remarks, said the convergenc­e of these chapters underscore­s a significan­t milestone towards perpetuati­ng enduring and impactful transforma­tions within our vibrant community.

He also expressed with great esteem and pride that he stands as the chairman of the organising committee, representi­ng the four local JCI chapters in Sibu.

“This marks the commenceme­nt of collaborat­ive events, and it is envisioned to serve as a cornerston­e for continuous, lasting, and influentia­l changes in our community,” he said.

In this regard, Lau extended his heartfelt gratitude to Deputy Natural Resources and Sustainabi­lity Minister and Sarikei MP Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii for his contributi­on.

“His generous funding not only elevates our shared vision for progress, but it also solidifies unwavering commitment to advancing the principles of JCI in Sibu.

“The thematic nucleus of the event is the essence of business networking, with an emphasis on establishi­ng robust relationsh­ips, connection­s, and exchange of informatio­n for the collective prosperity of the community,” he added.

Lau said participan­ts are encouraged to foster an openminded approach, engaging in authentic and sincere exchanges while being prepared for diverse possibilit­ies.

The hosting local organisati­on president Simon Hii emphasised the significan­ce of having business connection­s within JCI.

He also remarked that all participan­ts – employees or undergradu­ates – are encouraged to stand out as potential collaborat­ors or employees.

Meanwhile, Huang in a speech read by his private secretary Anthony Tan applauded JCI’s commitment to providing leadership developmen­t opportunit­ies for young people.

“JCI highlights the crucial role that empowered youth play in societal transforma­tion and nation-building, as well as encourages a mindset of readiness for empowermen­t,” he said.

Huang also mentioned that the Sibu zone will continue to nurture and unleash the potential of youth while also contributi­ng to community developmen­t.

“The business networking session provided participan­ts with a valuable opportunit­y to engage with entreprene­urs from diverse industries.

“It served as a platform for constructi­ve dialogues on industry challenges and the exploratio­n of potential collaborat­ions.”

JCI is an organisati­on that aims to provide leadership developmen­t opportunit­ies for individual­s aged 18 to 40. It is dedicated to equipping young people with the skills and mindset required to become leaders who have a positive, longlastin­g impact.
