SIBU: Junior Chamber International (JCI) Sibu recently held a business networking event cum Chinese New Year celebration, titled ‘Empower Youth Connect’.
The event was designed to foster entrepreneurial spirit among youth and broaden the horizons of business networking, which stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of JCI Sibu, JCI Mandarin Sibu, JCI Seduan, and JCI Sibu Jaya.
JCI Sibu chairman Elden Lau, in his opening remarks, said the convergence of these chapters underscores a significant milestone towards perpetuating enduring and impactful transformations within our vibrant community.
He also expressed with great esteem and pride that he stands as the chairman of the organising committee, representing the four local JCI chapters in Sibu.
“This marks the commencement of collaborative events, and it is envisioned to serve as a cornerstone for continuous, lasting, and influential changes in our community,” he said.
In this regard, Lau extended his heartfelt gratitude to Deputy Natural Resources and Sustainability Minister and Sarikei MP Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii for his contribution.
“His generous funding not only elevates our shared vision for progress, but it also solidifies unwavering commitment to advancing the principles of JCI in Sibu.
“The thematic nucleus of the event is the essence of business networking, with an emphasis on establishing robust relationships, connections, and exchange of information for the collective prosperity of the community,” he added.
Lau said participants are encouraged to foster an openminded approach, engaging in authentic and sincere exchanges while being prepared for diverse possibilities.
The hosting local organisation president Simon Hii emphasised the significance of having business connections within JCI.
He also remarked that all participants – employees or undergraduates – are encouraged to stand out as potential collaborators or employees.
Meanwhile, Huang in a speech read by his private secretary Anthony Tan applauded JCI’s commitment to providing leadership development opportunities for young people.
“JCI highlights the crucial role that empowered youth play in societal transformation and nation-building, as well as encourages a mindset of readiness for empowerment,” he said.
Huang also mentioned that the Sibu zone will continue to nurture and unleash the potential of youth while also contributing to community development.
“The business networking session provided participants with a valuable opportunity to engage with entrepreneurs from diverse industries.
“It served as a platform for constructive dialogues on industry challenges and the exploration of potential collaborations.”
