Call made on MP to clarify four long-awaited projects in Lanang constituency

-

The Lanang constituents have shared their hopes for their MP Alice Lau to have four longawaited projects be executed during her term of office, said Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong chairman Wong Ching Yong.

The four major projects are Sibu Heart Centre, a cancer centre, SMK Dudong’s new school block, and upgrading works on Jalan Airport.

“Voters in Lanang told me that they hoped Lau would try her best in completing these four plans within this term, and not let them down again this time. Is she willing to fight for Sibu, especially for the people in Lanang?

“If not, please explain the reasons why she does not or cannot fight for the people. If she is willing, please explain to everyone how she will implement the relevant plans and also give a time-frame for the completion of these plans,” he said during a press conference held after the SUPP Dudong mobile service session at a coffee shop here, yesterday.

Wong, who contested against and lost to Lau in the 2022 general election, had pledged in his election manifesto to have these projects be implemented during his term if he was elected.

He claimed that based on Lau’s performance since winning the election on Nov 19 that year, she appeared to have not come up with any proposals or projects for Lanang and Sibu.

Citing the proposed new school building project for SMK Dudong as an example, Wong said the plan was approved in the 2021 National Budget after he had personally submitted the proposal to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who supported its construction in Sibu Jaya.

“Has Lau bothered to follow up with the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Education on the stages of implementation of this secondary school in Sibu Jaya? Has any tender been called? Who are the consultants, or the main contractor or developer of the construction of SMK Dudong?

“Regarding SK Dudong, which is as important as SMK Dudong, what has Lau done to ensure that the construction of this primary school will also be approved?” Wong questioned.

Meanwhile, on the proposed setting-up of heart and cancer centres in Sibu, Wong remarked that Lau had said about submitting a proposal to the then-Health Minister in September 2022.

“However, since then, there has been no news of any progress from her. Now the Minister of Health is a new one, what’s her next step of action? Has she followed up or submitted another proposal?” he asked further.

In this regard, Wong said the MPs from Pakatan Harapan under the Unity Government have ‘enjoyed’ an annual funding of RM4.2 million, to which he asked if Lau could disclose what the funds are used for.

“(Sibu MP) Oscar Ling has disclosed it, so has (Stampin MP) Chong Chieng Jen and (Bandar Kuching MP) Dr Kelvin Yii,” said Wong.
