MPC: MPKK collaboration boosts productivity via technology, digitisation
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Productivity Corporation (MPC), Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Construction Productivity Nexus (CPN), and other construction industry players have collaborated with the Kulim Municipal Council, Kedah (MPKK) to increase the efficiency of the work process through the adoption of technology and digitisation.
MPKK is leading the implementation of a pilot project using the National BIM e-Submission (NbeS) system for building plan development applications.
The pilot project work began in July 2023 and led to the official launch of BIM Station MKK (BIM Operations Centre) on August 28, last year.
In a joint statement yesterday, MPC director-general Zahid Ismail said MPKK’s efforts in boosting productivity through process efficiency and adoption of digital technology should be used as an example to other local authorities (PBTs).
“With the success of the project which reduced the period of factory construction and operational completion from 24 months to 10 months, MPKK continues to lead publicprivate collaboration efforts in improving the efficiency of the process to boost productivity, both on the part of the regulator and industry players.
“The widespread use of building information modelling (BIM) by PBTs will increase the productivity of the construction sector as various parties in a construction project can move simultaneously through the same digital system as it facilitates information sharing, improves communication efficiency, and improves work coordination,” he said.
Through BIM, design and analysis are more accurate, planning and scheduling are more efficient, and resources can be managed more effectively.
It also improves compliance with established regulations.
“The use of cost, time, and energy, as well as the implementation of process procedures, are more effective, thus increasing productivity,” Zahid added.
Meanwhile, MPKK chairman Datuk Elmi Yusoff said that the adoption of digital technology is an important requirement in increasing the productivity and efficiency of PBTs, especially in terms of industrial development.
“The implementation of MPKK’s BIM Station is in line with its mission to make Kulim a smart, prosperous, and peaceful city. MPKK’s commitment is to provide the best service to industry, business, and the residents in Kulim.
“MPKK is grateful and welcomes the cooperation and support of MPC, CIDB, and industry players in the successful implementation of BIM Station MPKK. I am confident that this effort will further boost investment and industrial development in Kulim which in turn will increase local economic activities,” he noted.
MPKK’s BIM Station is expected to be fully operational in April 2024, and the NBeS system is targeted to reduce the period of processing building plan approval applications to only 24 hours compared to 57 days currently.
