A child’s success a shared responsibility, says Lee
MIRI: A positive learning environment with high levels of staff and parental commitment plays a pivotal role in ensuring a child’s success, says Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.
Parents have a shared responsibility in educating the children, and therefore, should not expect teachers to shoulder all the responsibilities, he asserted.
“In fact, the most important thing that determines a child’s success is the child’s own determination and willpower to achieve excellence,” he said.
While highlighting the roles of both parents and teachers in shaping the child’s personal development, Lee also stressed on the needs to inculcate good habits of reading and thinking among the children.
“This is because education is a combination of these two habits – reading and thinking. If we apply these habits to our children, I believe they will be successful in future,” he said.
“Therefore, let’s join hands to create our children’s success,” said Lee in his speech at the officiating of SK Riam Batu Dua excellence awards presentation ceremony here, yesterday.
Lee, who is also the Senadin assemblyman, lauded the school organising committee for the hosting of the event which recognised the pupils’ efforts and achievements in academics and co-curriculum activities.
“On behalf of the school, I would like to congratulate not only the award recipients, but also to the parents and teachers who have been the backbone of their success,” said Lee.
Also present at the event was Major Muhammad Azfar Azman who represented the school PTA chairman Lieutenant Colonel Mohd Firdaus M. Yatim.
