‘Emphasise importance of nurturing 3M skills early’

-

SIBU: Nursery education is very important to foster the 3M skills (reading, writing, and counting) in the early stages of childhood, said Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN) state director Dirwana Azool.

He stressed that before entering primary and secondary school, children should be able to master the 3Ms.

“It all starts in the nursery; that’s why the nursery is so important. This is where we first start to hone their talent and their passion to learn, especially the 3Ms.

“The mastery of 3Ms should start at the kindergarten level,” he said when officiating at the 2023/2024 convocation ceremony of Tabika Perpaduan Sibu Division at the Kampung Nyabor Malay Club Hall here yesterday.

Also present were JPNIN Sibu Division officer Siti Nurfatimah Hussen, Coordinating Committee for Unity Kindergarten Sibu Division chairwoman Marlisa Hanip Omar, Pemanca Sharifah Ainie Sayed Alwie and KRT Nangka/Bandong/Abang Barieng chairman Drahman Julaihi.

Dirwana emphasised that the 3Ms are the three main elements that promote rational thinking among children that ultimately allows them to decide what should be done and what should not be done.

He explained that it is particularly important in their going-up years in forming a perfect personality, especially when stepping into the world of schooling.

It also requires close consensus between parents and teachers for children to master the 3Ms, he added.

“I call on parents to continue to commit to your children by spending time with them to hone their talents and educate them.

“Don’t leave all the responsibilities of teaching the children to teachers alone because education also starts at home,” he emphasised.

About 300 kindergarten pupils were celebrated at the event.

In addition to the convocation ceremony, there was also a creative-smart competition in dance, singing, storytelling and musical drama categories.
