Ex-DCM: Sarawak’s success derives from unity of its people
KUCHING: Sarawak’s success can be attributed to the unity of Sarawakians, says former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan.
In stating this, he hails Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as ‘exemplifying that kind of leadership that unites everyone’.
“This is the future of Sarawak, where everyone works together.
“I recalled that initially, many people were doubtful of Sarawak’s initiatives, but those ideas became a reality,” he told reporters when met at his Chinese New Year 2024 open house in Fairway Villa, Jalan Sultan Tengah here last weekend.
Adding on, Dr Chan expressed his confidence in Abang Johari’s leadership for Sarawak, praising the latter for his evident passion in developing the state.
“I feel that the Premier is pointing Sarawak towards the right direction.”
On the celebration, Dr Chan encouraged everyone to enjoy the festivities with one another, regardless of background.
“Although business is going strong, everyone is still taking the time to celebrate the Chinese New Year. To make it enjoyable and meaningful, this season must be celebrated with everyone, irrespective of race or religion,” he pointed out.
Apart from Abang Johari and wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, Dr Chan and his wife Datuk Lorna Chan also hosted the visits by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi; Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan; Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; and Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan.
