KUCHING: The Sarawak government will spend RM46 billion to implement various projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP 2021-2025), disclosed Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.

The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development said the sum greatly surpasses the RM16.4 billion allocated for the same purpose under the 10th Malaysia Plan (2011-2015).

“To spend RM46 billion under the 12th Malaysia Plan on mega projects, including federal ones, will for sure make us happy.

“I hope with these current and incoming projects in Sarawak, all engineers particularly those in the construction industry, suppliers, entrepreneurs and consultants would play important role in the development of Sarawak and be part of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030,” he said.

He said this when representing Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the opening of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (Unimas) 15th International Engineering Conference (Encon) 2024 at a hotel here yesterday.

Aidel also expressed hope that projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan would be completed on schedule within the next Malaysia Plan (2026-2030) with the support of quality human resource and digital technology.

In view of that, he said the holding of Encon 2024 is timely and apt to motivate engineers to be more innovative and subscribe to excellence and success in the engineering sector, construction environment and technology in line with global trend.

He pointed out that Sarawak’s vision is to achieve greater economic prosperity with technology and engineering as the basis for the creation of quality livelihood for the people at large.

At the function, Aidel witnessed the signing of memorandums of understanding (MoU) involving eight entities, aimed at strengthening their respective collaboration with Unimas in the field of engineering, research and development, and training.
