Chamber to work with Motac to bring in more China tourists

The Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sarawak branch will work closely with the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) in the effort to lure more tourists from China to the state, said its president Wong Tin Kwong.

He said this is in view of Malaysia’s visa-free policy for China travellers, and the establishm­ent of more air routes between the two countries.

“We pledge to work with Motac on this, and we hope Datuk Seri Tiong will especially help to promote tourism in Sarawak by bringing in more tourists from China,” he said, referring to Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

Wong said this during the minister’s Chinese New Year visit to his residence here on Tuesday.

He also praised Tiong, who is Bintulu MP and Dudong assemblyma­n, for working tirelessly to promote the country and helping the economy’s recovery.

“Motac officials have even gone to China to meet tour agents, airline companies and government bodies in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou to promote Malaysia.

“With Malaysia targeting to bring in seven million Chinese tourists this year, I believe this would greatly aid the economy’s recovery while also attracting foreign investment­s to the country,” said Wong.
