Preparations for Sarawak Sukma on track — Ling
The state government’s preparations for the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) this August are progressing smoothly, said National Sports Council (MSN) board of management member Alan Ling.
According to Ling, the state government has full support from the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) and the MSN.
“Together with the state government, KBS and MSN, we will ensure that Sukma this time will be the most successful and perfect in terms of organisation.
“I was made to understand that Miri will also be the venue for several Sukma events this year and I would like to call on the people here to give their full support towards these events,” he told reporters when hosting a Chinese New Year and Appreciation Dinner for the Miri Volleyball Association (MVA) at his house last Sunday.
Ling, who is also MVA president, urged the members of the public here to register as volunteers for Sukma 2024.
“We need a lot of volunteers to make Sukma a success this August, and recruitment is still open and being carried out from time to time,” he said.
Ling also revealed that other state contingents have been preparing hard for the biennial national multi-sport event.
“The states allocated a lot of resources and support to enable their athletes to succeed.
“This will definitely make them a challenge in the competition, which is good for the development of sports in the country.
“Furthermore, the hunt for the country’s first Olympic gold medal will continue at the Paris Olympics this year, and the government has allocated RM20 million for the preparation under the ‘Road to Gold’ (RTG) initiative. We have high hopes and hopefully we can achieve that goal,” he added.
In conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration, Ling described the year of the dragon as challenging and also a good year for Malaysia to thrive.
Meanwhile, Ling handed over a donation of RM10,000 to MVA at the gathering.
