SEB junior badminton Kuching leg draws almost 500 shuttlers

KUCHING: The recently concluded Sarawak Energy Junior Badminton Championsh­ips Kuching Leg attracted 479 shuttlers from across Sarawak.

Hosted at the Sarawak Badminton Associatio­n Hall, the event provided a competitiv­e platform for young talents to showcase their skills.

The annual junior meet aims to foster a passion for badminton and cultivate the developmen­t of young talents within the sport.

This year’s championsh­ip not only demonstrat­ed the high level of interest among the youth in badminton but also highlighte­d the potential of emerging athletes within the state.

The tournament featured singles and doubles competitio­ns for boys and girls in the U12, U14, U16, U18 and U21 age group categories.

Goh Shun Huat bagged the Boys U21 singles crown after he beat Pui Wee Young while Ting Siang Yu and Felix Fong finished joint third.

Kashley Kho was the Girls U21 singles champion after she beat Sim Jia Min and in joint third placing were April Lee Tong and Ashreney Kho.

The Boys U12 final saw Danice Tchin beating Beldrick Anyum Bayan while Ezra Liau and Yii Hao Bing were joint third.

Rosella Tania was crowned champion in the Girls U12 singles, with Samantha Kong as the first runner-up.

The joint third positions went to Abbie Wong and Jollene Goh.

Athan Yang won the Boys U14 singles while Larry Lau was second, and Wyn Ong and Alexander Ku were joint third.

In the Girls U14 singles category, Brenda Jong was the champion, with Eunice Chong as the first runner-up and Maria Alexa Patrus and Qiez Nur Marsyiella joint third.

Other champions included Athan Yang and Noel Liew (Boys U14 doubles), Eunice Chong and Qiez Nur Marsyiella (Girls U14 doubles), Jack Huong (Boys U16 singles), Janice Tchin (Girls U16 singles), Lee Zi Yang and Jack Huong (Boys U16 doubles), Janice Tchin and Megan Tan (Girls U16 doubles), Eric Choo (Boys U18 singles) and Alexander Lee Wei and Tan Han Fong (Boys U18 doubles).
