Ramadan sales must be run in orderly manner, individual traders reminded

-

Those wishing to conduct individual sales activities throughout the Ramadan month this year must organise their trading areas in an orderly manner, said Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

The Deputy Ministerfor Utility and Telecommunication said there were local residents who had enquired about the possibility for them to conduct small-scale sales activities individually.

“This matter has been discussed and officially, we do not grant permission to everyone.

“However, if any party could organise their trading places in an orderly manner and still in compliance with the guidelines and regulations outlined by DBKU (Kuching North City Commission), we would not obstruct.

“Nevertheless, we call upon Kuching residents, especially the small-scale traders who want to sell items, to organise their respective trading areas properly,” he told reporters when met during the ‘Kuching Car-Free Morning’ programme at the Heroes Monument Park here yesterday.

Adding on, the Pantai Damai assemblyman emphasised the importance of cleanliness, reminding traders and entrepreneurs to ensure that their areas would bekept clean and litter-free at all times.

He also highlighted the importance of ensuring that their trading sites would not obstruct traffic flow.

“This is crucial because last year, in some areas under DBKU, we found that manyhad placed their stalls on the roadside, and sometimes, thecustomers would stop by – this caused traffic disturbances in those areas.

“We want to ensure that they pay attention to this as well,” he added.

On health concerns, Dr Abdul Rahman highlighted the need to comply with the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health, namely the requirement for the traders to be vaccinated and to adhere to the set medical guidelines.

“These are some of the things we emphasise to ensure that our trader friends who want to participate in this Ramadan activities, would cooperate with DBKU,” he added.

Dr Abdul Rahman also said similar to previous years, DBKU together with Kuching South City Council (MBKS) would arrange for Ramadan bazaars to be held in their respective areas of jurisdiction.

It is informed that under the DBKU, three locations have been designated for Ramadan bazaars – Satok, Sukma Ria and Semarak.
