Diesel subsidy for Sabah, Sarawak this year remains — Miri MP

-

MIRI: The federal government has agreed to continue diesel subsidy for Sabah and Sarawak this year, said Miri MP Chiew Choon Man.

Chiew said that he had raised the ma er to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president, during a PKR Central Leadership Council (MPP) special meeting on Sunday.

“In this special meeting, I had raised people’s concern from Sarawak and Sabah on the diesel subsidy rationalisation which was announced in Budget 2024 end of last year.

“Thank you to the party president for his understanding on the need of people in Sarawak and Sabah, where once again (he) guaranteed that subsidy rationalisation which was announced in Budget 2024 will not involve Sarawak and Sabah,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Chiew said before the meeting started, he met and handed over a le er to PKR secretary general, who is also Home Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution regarding traffic congestions at Sungai Tujoh Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex here.

He said that the traffic situation at Sungai Tujoh CIQ is critical especially on weekends, public holidays as well during festive seasons, where travellers will be stuck for hours to go through immigration and customs clearance.

“In fact, during Chinese New

Year last week, I received many complaints from the public and visitors from Brunei that they had to wait three to four hours at the Sungai Tujoh CIQ,” said Chiew.

Other ma ers raised, added Chiew, were the old Miri District Office and Miri Central Police Station that needed immediate maintenance and repair works.

“I had also invited Saifuddin to do a working visit to Miri to get a clear picture on these issues that were raised to him,” said Chiew.
