Mosti works with Scotland Trade Agency for programme

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti), through the Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA) and the Malaysian Industry Group High Technology (MIGHT), has collaborat­ed with Scottish Developmen­t Internatio­nal (SDI) to organise the Malaysia-Scotland TechnoMart Programme.

Scottish Developmen­t Internatio­nal (SDI) is an external trade and investment agency that aims to promote Scotland as a place for investment and trade.

The programme was held for two days at MIGHT Partnershi­p Hub, Cyberjaya on Feb 13 and at the MYSA Headquarte­rs, Kuala Lumpur on Feb 14.

In a statement today, MOSTI said the programme was also implemente­d in collaborat­ion with strategic partners from the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporatio­n (MDEC), the Malaysian Investment Developmen­t Board (MIDA), and the Malaysian Space Industry Consortium (MASIC).

“It aims to build opportunit­ies and explore industrial cooperatio­n in the field of space between Malaysia and Scotland, which is fully supported by the United Kingdom.

“The completion of the programme involves a workshop session that discusses the five main topics in space, namely Space Applicatio­n, Space Operations, Space Manufactur­ing, Funding and Governance, and Academia, followed by presentati­ons, pitching, and business matching sessions,” the ministry said.

MOSTI said as many as 22 delegation­s from Scotland consisting of eight leading companies and two renowned universiti­es are among the participan­ts involved in this programme.

“The participat­ion from Malaysia involved 60 participan­ts consisting of six government agencies, 12 companies, and 10 local universiti­es,” it added.

According to MOSTI, the programme has identified as many as nine projects that have great potential to be developed through strategic cooperatio­n between the two countries.

“It covers aspects of the developmen­t of satelliteb­ased solutions in the fields of communicat­ions, agricultur­e and positionin­g (three projects), the provision of launch and operation services (three projects), as well as the research and developmen­t of satellite technology with academics (three projects).

Advanced manufactur­ing technology in space has also been identified as one of the potential strategic collaborat­ions based on the availabili­ty of the electrical and electronic­s (E&E) industry in the country,” it said.
