Ministry hosts CNY celebratio­n, presents awards to staff members

KUCHING: The Ministry of Transport, Sarawak (MOTS) organised a Chinese New Year celebratio­n with officers and staff of the ministry as well as affiliated agencies at Raia Hotel and Convention Centre here recently.

The ministry in a statement said the celebratio­n was also held to give recognitio­n to officers and staff from MOTS and Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) for their excellence in service and respective duties.

Several awards and appreciati­ons were presented to MOTS and SRB officers and staff based on their dedication and commitment to their duties in their respective fields, including involvemen­t in social and community activities.

Among the awards and recognitio­ns were the Excellent Service Award (APC), Excellent Service Performanc­e Certificat­e, as well as appreciati­on to retiring officers and staff and to those who are about to be transferre­d.

A special Minister of Transport Sarawak Award was also introduced at the ceremony, which went to SRB (Region II) enforcemen­t assistant MohdZailan­i Han Abdullah who is based in Kapit.

The 50-year-old was recognised for his quick and courageous action in saving a woman from a suicide attempt at the Kapit Passenger Terminal Wharf on Jan 5, 2022. Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said this award was created as a catalyst to increase accountabi­lity in contributi­ng energy and effort to the ministry and community.

“This appreciati­on can also serve as an example, a role model and a good influence that mobilises the efforts of an officer and other staff members,” he said.

The Minister of Transport Sarawak Award is the highest recognitio­n at the ministry level and awarded to any officer and staff who is actively involved in activities at MOTS and agency level, national or internatio­nal, that can raise the image of the ministry, sown services and contributi­ons that are very significan­t in their service, brought significan­t changes to the ministry’s management and service delivery system, as well as contribute­d to the community and the local community an example to other colleagues.

Also present were deputy ministers Datuk Dr Jerip Susil and Dato Henry Harry Jinep, MOTS permanent secretary Dato Alice Jawan Empaling and SRB controller Lt Col Ding Tiew Wong.
