KUCHING: Sarawak Sukma XXI bowlers Nur Hazirah Ramli, Lavinia Kho Jia Jie, Gordon Tsen Fan Yew and Ethan Damien Goh Chen Ming have given a good account of themselves at the recent 10th Dubai International Tenpin Bowling Championships Delta Open.

Despite not making the podium, Lavinia and Ethan did well to qualify into the top 22 qualifiers out of 103 competitors for the Round 1 Masters finals.

Lavinia failed to advance into Round 2 in the masters finals but Ethan did well to enter into Round 2 finishing 4th.

However, the 14-year-old form two student of Maple Leaf Kingsley International School and youngest member of Sukma XXI squad missed out on the stepladder finals.

Meanwhile, Amateur Bowling Association of Sarawak (Abas) vice president Robert Lu Nam Min was happy with the performance of the state bowlers.

“I am very satisfied with the good showing by our young bowlers who took on the world’s best bowlers.

“The qualifying scores average were very high and one needed at least 237 an average game to qualify for Round One.

“To do that, you need to have six consecutive strikes per game,” he told The Borneo Post.

Lu said Hazirah and Tsen had average game of between 200 and 210 pinfalls while Lavinia and Ethan had average game of around 230 pinfalls.

“This is a very good outing for them and also a very good exposure for them in preparing for Sukma XXI to be hosted by Sarawak in August this year.

“Hazirah and Tsen are now in the national youth squad while Gillian Lim, who is over-age for Sukma, is training with the national backup squad,” added Lu.
