2023 Indie Song Awards announces shortlist for three genres

PETaLiNG Jaya: Fifteen songs have been selected as finalists across three categories for the upcoming 2023 Indie Song Awards (#ALI2023), set to take place on March 7.

Ahmed Faris Amir, the executive producer of the awards show, disclosed that the standout songs in the Pop, Rock, and Hip Hop genres were chosen from a pool of 626 submission­s received since July 2023.

“We introduced some changes in this fourth edition by showcasing the best songs under the Pop, Rock, and Hip Hop genres,” explained Ahmed Faris Amir.

“The Indie Song Awards 2023 also has an improved scoring format, incorporat­ing 30% online public voting and 70% profession­al jury evaluation,” he highlighte­d at the finalists’ announceme­nt at the ESI Hub, Spacerubix.

Jennifer Thompson, the coexecutiv­e producer of the Indie Song Awards, emphasised that the shortliste­d songs for #ALI2023 were chosen based on the quality of the music.

“The chosen and nominated songs must have original lyrics and music,” she said.

The top five songs shortliste­d under the three categories are as follows:

Hip Hop: Ice Cold Castle, Candy Mind, LXF, Gard O Gard, and Mimpi untuk Semalam.

Pop: Pura, Pembunuh Malam, Stargazing, Luka, and Derana.

rock: Jiwa (Takhta Milik Kita), In the Haze, Inti Sari, Terra Luna, and Souled Out.

Solo artists or groups presenting songs need to win in their respective categories before competing across genres to be crowned the 2023 Indie Song Awards Grand Finalist to take home the cash prize of RM36,000.

The 2023 Indie Song Awards is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Gaya Hidup Rakan Muzik, and Rakan Muda.
