BINTULU: The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Symposium will ensure that every occupational safety law is always practised by all job players in various sectors in the division, said OSH 2024 chairman Hazlim Sham Ibrahim.

He said OSH 2024 Symposium, organised by Columbia Asia Hospital Bintulu, brings together professionals, experts and stakeholders in the field of occupational safety, medicine and health.

“It is the main platform for all industry players to discuss and share insights on the latest developments, challenges, new knowledge and best practices in occupational safety and health,” he said.

Hazlim was speaking at the OSH 2024 Symposium dinner, which was hosted by Columbia Asia Hospital Bintulu recently.

According to him, the symposium held in collaboration with the Social Security Organisation (Socso) and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DoSH) enabled all relevant agencies and clients of Columbia Asia Hospital to share the latest occupational health regulations, including compliance standards and impact on operations of the hospital and its clients.

“It will provide insights into navigating regulatory requirements and implementing effective strategies to ensure occupational health compliance,” he added.

Hazlim said this was in keeping with the symposium’s theme, ‘Safety and Health and Medicine Working Together’, meant to explore the ways these fields intersect to create a holistic approach to occupational safety and health.

In a related development, the hospital management also held a symbolic launch of the Columbia Asia Hospital Dental Clinic.

According to resident dentist at Columbia Asia Hospital Bintulu Dr Athinia Wong, the services offered include routine dental check-ups, dental cleanings, fillings, extractions, root canals, teeth whitening, minor oral surgery, dentures, as well as crowns and bridges which will be sent to and done by external dental laboratory.

“This year, we will be working with Bintulu Health Office’s Dental Department on a preschool programme, extending our services to a select number of kindergartens.

“Through this programme, we will provide health awareness, conduct dental check-ups for children in kindergartens and provide treatment or referrals as needed,” she added.
