Sarawak launches own food delivery mobile app

-

Sarawak’s very own food delivery application Ketek was launched yesterday, available not only in English and Malay languages, but also in Chinese and Iban.

Ketek chief executive officer Suhardy Yakop said the smart app made its debut two weeks ago via the Google Play Store, and also accessible via https:// ketekajak.com/.

It would be available via Apple App Store in the near future, he added.

Ketek’s runner and vendor apps are also available in Google Play Store separately.

On the food delivery service, Suhardy said it would be divided into halal and non-halal food and beverages.

“People can choose the languages – whether they want to communicate in English, Malay, Chinese or Iban.

“This means users and riders will get the same experience as everyone else who uses Ketek,” he said at the soft launch yesterday.

Meanwhile, Ketek founder Iswandy Yakob said his team was targeting 30,000 registered users by the end of this year, and also recruiting at least 50 runners for each division in Sarawak.

“The response for Ketek’s runner app is very encouraging. To date, Ketek has registered 275 runners throughout Sarawak and is consistently receiving new applications,” he said.

Iswandy also said the vendor’s registration for Ketek just started two weeks ago.

“We now have received 192 applications. Ketek aims to have 5,000 food and ecommerce merchants within this year.

“However, the number of user downloads (for the app) is still low because it is still at an early stage. But we believe it will increase,” he said.

Adding on, Suhardy expressed his confidence that the Ketek app would improve the socio-economic situation of the people, especially those running small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and traders in the sub-urban and rural areas.

“What differentiates Ketek from other food delivery apps is that Ketek does not take any commission from the food vendors and sellers.

“This will help Sarawakian businesses increase their income under the gig economy sector.

“One-hundred per cent of the income received by Ketek vendors, entrepreneurs and runners belong to them, unlike others that may charge up to more than 25 per cent commission to shippers and entrepreneurs, to make profits.

“The prices of food and goods in our app are also the same as those displayed in the store,” he said.
