Do your part in curbing dengue outbreak, Mirians told
The report of 50 dengue cases here this year to date is a cause of concern, which warrants full attention from the people.
In pointing this out, Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said from the 50 cases, 13 were reported in Taman Ceria here alone.
In this regard, he called upon all Mirians to work together with the local authorities to stop the spread of dengue in the city.
“We must be proactive in our efforts to stop the spread of dengue — we do not want a dengue problem to become widespread in Miri,” the Senadin assemblyman told reporters after launching a ‘Dengue Committee Integrated Operation’ at Taman Ceria here yesterday.
On the programme, Lee said Taman Ceria had a dense population and everyone should play their part and work together if they wanted to stop the spread of dengue.
“We all know dengue is caused by the Aedes mosquito, so we should take all the necessary action to stop them from breeding.
“The team will go around to inform the residents here on what to do to prevent dengue outbreak.
“Aedes (mosquitoes) breed in clean, clear water so we must not leave water to become stagnant in our compound or inside our house,” he said.
The state minister also said the operation would be on-going until the zero-case target is achieved.
“I would also like to appeal to the Health Department and Miri City Council to keep monitoring the situation.
“All local community leaders are also requested to monitor their respective areas — they must report any cases to the district office, so they can inform the Health Department to take the appropriate action,” he said.
Also present yesterday were Miri Health Office’s epidemiology medical officer Dr Andau Konodan Mosiun and Lutong Fire and Rescue station chief Henry Jugah.
