State-level Gawai Dayak 2024 dinner to be held at BCCK

-

Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn is heading the organising committee of this year’s state-level Gawai Dayak celebration.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who serves as the permanent chairman of this committee, called for a meeting yesterday to discuss the preparations and details for the upcoming event, to be organised by the Bidayuh community.

“The highlight will be the Gawai dinner on June 22, 2024. We have chosen the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) as the venue.

“As previously, we will invite Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi as our guests-of-honour.

“We will also invite our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and our Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and their spouses as well,” he said in a press statement, also commending the Iban community’s organising committee for the previous year’s celebration.

Meanwhile, Sagah said in addition to the dinner and the ‘Niti Daun’ procession similar to one held last year, this year’s state-level Gawai Dayak celebration would include the ‘Gawai Bazaar’ and ‘Gawai Carnival’.

“From feedback that we have received, those celebrating Gawai want the bazaar to be run this May, so as to allow them to buy whatever accessories, traditional costumes, handicrafts and other products earlier.

“Our main working committee will meet soon to decide the venues and the dates for both programmes,” he said at the meeting, where Minister in Sarawak Premier’s Department Datuk John Sikie Tayai was also present.
