Matta expects RM7 million sales during fair at The Hills Kuching

-

The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Sarawak Chapter anticipates sales to reach around RM7 million at the 19th Sarawak Matta Fair 2024, set to be taking place at The Hills Shopping Mall here this March 8 to 10.

Matta Sarawak chairman Oscar Choo said the event promises to be significant, with a remarkable 71 booths – an increase over the 43 booths at Aeon Mall in the previous edition.

“This year, we had to move to The Hills due to an overwhelming response of 71 booths.

“For the previous Matta Fair, our sales reached RM4 million, and after that the amount increased to RM6 million. Based on past performances, we are aiming for a modest RM7 million over those three days,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

Despite concerns about how weak Malaysian ringgit might affect consumer’s purchasing, Choo remained optimistic.

“Even if some may be wary with their spending, we are still hopeful,” he added.

Choo also announced that the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) of Malaysia Airlines, Firefly and MASWings would once again be the event’s official airline.

The fair would provide visitors with the opportunity to explore and purchase a variety of value-for-money domestic and international holiday packages from licensed tour operators.

MAG, in collaboration with appointed agents, would also offer deals and promotions on flight tickets to facilitate a closer connection with holiday planners.

“Matta applauds the government’s initiative to increase the frequency of flights, making it easier for holiday planners to link the globe,” he said.

To enhance the visitors’ experiences, the fair would also feature promotions and lucky draws.

MAG would be giving away domestic and international flight tickets as part of the ‘Buyers’ Contest’, offering return tickets and vouchers along with other sponsors, namely Scoot,

Borneo Happy Farm, Damai Beach Resort, Damai Lagoon Resort, Grand Margherita, Harbour View Hotel, Hotel Grand Continental Kuching, Pullman Kuching, Riverside Majestic Hotel, Royal Kuching Cruise, Sarawak River Cruise, Sematan Palm Beach Resort, The Meritin Hotel and The Waterfront Hotel.

“Matta believes that such collaboration and support from MAG along with members of the hospitality industry to be a strong crowd-puller in boosting and reviving international and domestic tourism, as well as contributing to the overall tourism growth.

“We are confident that the finely-selected packages offered by our members can give visitors the chance to choose their dream destinations and explore the world with confidence,” added Choo.

Admission to the fair is free, and it is open from 10am to 10pm daily throughout the three days.
