Association to hold blood donation campaign tomorrow
Kuching Love Book Association will be holding their 11th blood donation campaign at Kuching City South Council (MBKS) tomorrow from 9am to 2pm.
The campaign is in response to the Sarawak General Hospital blood bank’s call to help alleviate the problem of insufficient blood stock.
“We hope that people from all walks of life will actively attend and support this meaningful blood donation event and help people in urgent need of blood.
“One donation of blood can save three lives,” Kuching Love Book Association founder and chairperson May Loo Hun Ing said in a statement.
According to her, different components in the blood will be separated during a process, and after being tested for viruses and bacteria, they will be used to treat different diseases.
“Therefore, with a pack of blood, three or more patients can be treated.”
For the blood donation, anyone who weighs 45kg and over 18 years old is eligible to donate blood, while those 17 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The whole blood donation process only takes five to 30 minutes, depending on the individual’s constitution.
Those interested in donating must ensure that they have at least five hours of sleep, eaten breakfast, and refrained from alcoholic beverages for eight hours the night before.
Loo said the first 80 successful donors will each receive a goodies bag that consists of an eco bag, mug, stress ball, 5kg white rice, Milo, oat, milk and biscuits.
“Kuching Love Book Association is grateful to the sponsors for their donations to enable the blood donation campaign to proceed smoothly,” she said.
She thanked the sponsors 38 Yayasan Amal Cinta, Supreme Consolidated Resources Sdn Bhd, Everrise Departmental Store Sdn Bhd and Wecare Bakery for their support.
“Thank you to the support unit of Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank and Malaysian Red Crescent, Kuching Branch as well as Kuching South mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng for providing the blood donation’s venue,” added Loo.
