Temporary flood relief centres opened at Kpg Segong, Kpg Sinar Budi Baru

Temporary flood relief centres (PPS) were opened at the Kampung Segong hall in Bau and Dewan Sinar Budi Baru hall in Batu Kawa yesterday.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said in Bau, the centre was opened at 6.55am to shelter three families, comprising two men, four women, one girl and a baby boy, all displaced by flash floods that hit Kampung Segong.

At Kampung Sinar Budi Baru, a disabled man was brought to the village’s hall after his house was inundated.

In Bau, the floodwater began to recede by 8.30am and the Civil Defence Force (APM) and other rescue services were still on the ground.

At 11am, the PPS at Dewan R-Piang Kampung Sinar Budi Baru took in 82 families comprising 194 individual­s; the PPS Dewan Masyarakat Stapok listed 23 families comprising 98 individual­s; while PPS Dewan Kampung Segong registered 16 families comprising 64 individual­s.

Meanwhile, two water level stations in Kuching and one in Sibu recorded readings above the ‘Danger’ level yesterday.

Based on data shared by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) via publicinfo­banjir.water.gov.my, the Malihah station in Kuching recorded a reading of 8.1m, above the danger level of 7.4m, while the Desa Wira station recorded a reading of 3.66m, exceeding the danger level of 3.5m.

In Sibu, the Sungai Salim B station recorded a reading of 3.2m – just 0.1m above the danger level of 3.1m.

Meanwhile, the Serian station recorded a reading of 8.74m, above the warning level of 8.51m.

Ten stations across Sarawak recorded readings above the ‘Alert’ level.
