Always abide by traffic rules, teen motorcyclists advised

-

It is important for all secondary students who ride motorcycles to school to abide by the traffic rules, including wearing safety helmets, at all times.

In giving this reminder, Minister of Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin also points out the key requirement for them to obtain the Class B2 licence for machines with engine power range not exceeding 250cc.

“I have been informed by school authorities that many secondary students who ride to school neither have the B2 licence nor safety helmets.

“This could be because of financial difficulty.

“This is where the MyLesen Driving Licence Assistance Programme (BLM) comes in – an initiative to help these students.

“We all want to see students go to school and come back home safely,” he said in his speech for the launch of the BLM at Dewan Dato Permaisuri in Bandar Baru Permyjaya here yesterday.

The BLM is a pilot programme approved by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), meant to help secondary school students obtain the Class B2 licence.

Under this programme, each applicant only pays RM250 to undergo the driving course and assessment, instead of the usual RM750.

It is informed that for the programme conducted by Institute Memandu Miri Subis Sdn Bhd and Institut Menandu City Miri Sdn Bhd, it received application from 672 people, and from this number, 609 were eligible.

The event at Dewan Dato Permaisuri received turnout of 503 participants.

These students are from SMK Pujut, SMK Baru, SMK Lutong, SMK Riam, SMK St Joseph, SMK St Columba, SMK Luak, SMK Dato Permaisuri, Kolej Vokasional Miri, Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang, SMK Taman Tunku, SMK Merbau and SMK Lopeng Tengah.
