Over 1,100 compete in seven sports at LANDAS Carnival

KUCHING: The Land and Survey Department Sarawak (LANDAS) Sports Carnival (LASSCAR) is a good platform for personnel from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Developmen­t (MUDeNR), Sarawak Topography Mapping Division, Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia, Land Surveyors Board and LANDAS to interact and network.

This was noted by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan at the closing of LASSCAR at Penview Convention Centre Demak. A total of 1,185 athletes and officials took part in the sports carnival of seven sports namely badminton, darts, futsal, netball, petanque, table tennis and tenpin bowling.

“As civil servants, we need to continuous­ly take care of our health so that we can discharge our responsibi­lities efficientl­y.

“Sports is one of the ways that we can keep our body healthy and strong and I must congratula­te LANDAS and related agencies for organising and taking part in this event,” said Awang Tengah, who is also Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Developmen­t.

“The Sarawak government has implemente­d various new policies on digital economy, green technology and so on. Hence it is vital that we keep ourselves healthy so that we can play our roles well.

Meanwhile, LANDAS Kuching emerged as overall champions after winning the men’s fustal and petanque while finishing second in table tennis and badminton. Other sports were won by LANDAS HQ (table tennis), LANDAS Samarahan (badminton, women’s futsal), LANDAS Sarikei (netball) and LANDAS Limbang (darts).

Also present at the ceremony were LANDAS director Datu Abdullah Julaihi and Sarawak Sports Corporatio­n CEO Awang Putrayusri­e Awang Redzuan.
