Study on ‘cascading power source’ in Lawas, Limbang — Abg Jo

- Mastura Ismail

The Sarawak government will conduct a study on generating electricity using ‘cascading power source’ in Limbang and Lawas, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said countries such as Canada are already using such approach to generate power.

“We will be conducting study to generate power using cascading power source along the river in Limbang and Lawas, and this approach does not require land acquisition.

“This is a new technology, just like in Canada where 50 per cent of power in the country is generated through cascading power source from its river.

“This will certainly give Limbang and Lawas a brighter future,” he said in a press conference after a working visit to the Limbang Waterfront project yesterday.

He also said that Limbang and Lawas will be fully equipped with water and electricity supply by 2025.

Earlier yesterday, Abang Johari chaired the first State Development Coordination Committee Meeting (SDCCM) for this year in Limbang.

Five ministries and one government agency delivered their reports on the performance of project implementation in Limbang Division to the Premier at the meeting.

The ministries were the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development, Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication, Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development, and Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development.

The Regional Corridor Development Authority was the government agency which presented its report.

Those present at yesterday’s meeting were deputy premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; state ministers and deputy ministers; State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; State Financial Secretary Dato Sri Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, and State Attorney-General Datu Saferi Ali.
