Team Hero Bowling claim second title

KUCHING: Squad A leaders Team Hero Bowling took their second title at the Sarawak Hornbill Team Cup after the second squad of the trios short oil pattern ended in the early hours Thursday with Team Sunway Megalanes in second and Team Dotmod in third.

Last year’s Sarawak Open Classified champion Bong Kihow led Daniel Tan and doubles long oil pattern champions Desmond Law-Chong Jun Foo for an early lead with their opening game of the Trios Squad A with 685.

Team Megalanes Junior A started well too with 664 for second spot.

Team Sunway Megalanes’ Muhammad Hariz Adlan, Cheah Yung Ren, Matthew Ong and Johnathan Chan took over the lead after adding 673 in the second game to their 655 opener.

Hero Bowling managed 637 to slip behind the new leader but regained the lead despite rolling only 618 in the third game.

Sunway Megalanes dropped to second with a decent 609 and trailed the leader by only three pins. Hero Bowling ended strongly with 642 to top Squad A with 2,582. Sunway Megalanes downed 608 to settle for second with 2,545, 37 pins adrift.

Ilman Nazim Roslim, Wan Nadzmi Fikri, Wan Muhammad Naqib and Adam Azza Zailan of Team Fighter Kental finished third with 2,510 pins.

Team Wipers A and Team FAMA BC rounded out the top five with 2,504 pins and 2,500 pins respective­ly.

In the second squad of the Trios over the short oil pattern, Team DKI B set the pace with a superb a 679 opener, 54 pins ahead of Abang Arif Yazid, Musayyar Khalid, Ahmad Aidil and Muhammad Hazim of Team Dotmod from Penang in second.

Team Dotmod added a strong 677 to take over the lead. Team DKI C of Novie Phang, Listea Almira, Sheya Chantika and Demarsya Putri Ariela moved into second spot with 612 and 646 to trail Team Dotmod by 44 pins.

The leaders needed 1,280 or more from their third and fourth games in order to overhaul Squad A leader, Hero Bowling.

But Team Dotmod ended the squad with 608 and 607 to end in third overall with 2,517, despite topping this squad.

Team Hero Bowling emerged the champion with Team Sunway Megalanes as first runner-up.
