Sarawak-based automotive, welding institute receives five-star rating
KUCHING: The Human Resources Ministry’s Skills Development Department’s Five-Star rating for all programmes offered by the Automotive and Welding Institute of Sarawak (Awisar) has affirmed the quality and industry-relevance of the institute’s automotive and welding programmes.
In a press release yesterday, the institute hailed the recent rating as ‘an affirmation’ of its ongoing contributions towards advancing the noble cause of talent development in Sarawak, and Malaysia as a whole.
Awisar general manager Jaidil Yakop received the award from the ministry’s deputy secretarygeneral (operations) Norison Ramli during a ceremony held at the Japan Malaysia Technical Institute (JMTi) in Penang, in conjunction with the ‘Karnival
Jelajah Madani Jom Masuk TVET Zon Utara 2024’ recently.
The carnival was jointly run by the Skills Development Department, JMTi and Social Security Organisation (Socso).
In September last year, Awisar received the ‘Best Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Provider Award (Automotive and Welding)’ at the Malaysia Education and TVET Awards 2024 in Kuala Lumpur.
For the record, Awisar is part of the Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions (Sarawak Skills).
Sarawak Skills executive director Hallman Sabri remarked: “It is an honour for Awisar to receive this prestigious award which confers a five-star rating (Highly Competitive) for all our skills programmes, namely ‘Light Vehicle-Repair Service’; ‘Light Vehicle-Diagnostic Service’; ‘After Sales Service OperationMotor Vehicle’; ‘Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Process’; and ‘Welding Technology Management’.
“This award takes its rightful place among Awisar’s significant achievements during its ongoing voyage to facilitate the noble cause of talent development.
“Indeed, the award is an eloquent testimony to Awisar’s role and contributions as a stakeholder in the transformation of our nation’s economic, educational and digital landscape as well as our unwavering commitment to fly the flag of excellence in post-secondary education and training for current and future generations of the workforce.”
Hallman also took the opportunity to thank the chairman of Sarawak Skills and the management council members, the stakeholders comprising the government, various sectors of industry, parents, alumni, students and staff members, for their support over the years.
“They have contributed tremendously to the transformation of Sarawak Skills into an award-winning hub of industry-driven talent development.”
With regard to related developments at Awisar, Hallman – also chairman of the Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC), said: “In line with the Sarawak Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and the state’s ongoing initiatives in carbon reduction emission, I am pleased to share that since the launch of our short course in hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) service and maintenance in October last year, we have received tremendous support from the industry and members of the general public.
