Selangau MP: Sekuau to undergo extensive devt plan
SIBU: The densely populated Sekuau Resettlement Scheme area will be expanded for its extensive growth, says Selangau MP Edwin Banta.
He said he had made a proposal for the construction of a road connecting Sekuau to Ulu Oya, Ulu Pakoh and Kanowit, which was to be accompanied with the provision of electricity and clean water supplies.
Edwin said this in his speech at the Royal Malaysian Police appreciation dinner cum 50th Golden Jubilee celebration of the Rascom Scheme at a community hall in Sekuau, near here Saturday.
Adding on, he said the road construction project proposal had been raised by the Mid Rajang Regional Development Agency committee.
The agency, he said, had been allocated RM1.5 million by the state government to work on the development of four constituents in the Rascom area namely Tamin, Kakus, Ngemah and Machan.
“Soon, we will draw up a development plan and will gather all community leaders, village and longhouse chiefs, as well as government officials from the respective areas for a round table discussion,” he said.
“We have also discussed this matter with the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), to which it has initially expressed its interest to bring in a company to develop sugar cane fields and build a sugar factory in this area (Sekuau).
“However, it did not materialise. I don’t know the reason but I’ll meet with the community leader and longhouse chief to find out.
“If this plan can be realised, it will ensure a continued progress of this area,” he said.
On the event, Edwin shared his appreciation for the services and sacrifices of the security forces, especially the police who fought during the communist insurgency in Sarawak in the 1970s.
