-

The Sarawak Initiatives (TSI) will be organising a public speaking competition for Sarawakian youths who are passionate about public speaking and committed to shaping a brighter future for Sarawak.

According to a press release, the competition is held as part of the non-profit civil society’s efforts to harness the untapped potential of Sarawak’s vibrant youth population.

Themed ’Voice of Sarawak Youths’, it also aims to provide a platform for young individuals from both urban and rural backgrounds to articulate their thoughts on key issues that resonate with the heart of Sarawak’s development.

The competition is divided into two categories: Junior Category for youths aged between 13 and 17, and Senior Category which is open those aged 18 to 24.

It will explore three thoughtprovoking themes , namely ‘A Proud Sarawakian’, ‘The Dreams and Vision of a Sarawakian’, and ‘Building a Better Sarawak’.

Each theme plays a crucial role in the socio-economic and cultural development of Sarawak.

The champion from both categories will each walk away with a cash prize of RM2,000, while the first and second runners-up will win RM1,000 and RM500 respectively. There are also consolation cash prizes of RM50 up for grabs.

The preliminary round of the competition will be held on April 27 via Zoom from 8am to 5pm, and the grand finals will be on June 22 at the Islamic Information Centre at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee here, also from 8am to 5pm.

TSI said by providing a platform for public speaking, the competition encourages active participation from both urban and rural youth, fostering a sense of pride, responsibility, and commitment to building a better Sarawak.

“This competition is not only about public speaking; it is also about empowering the youth to take an active role in shaping the future of Sarawak.

“By providing platform for the expression of diverse perspectives, they contribute to the collective efforts of building a better and a more inclusive Sarawak,” read the statement.

TSI also said that participants will not only showcase their public speaking skills but also demonstrate a profound understanding of the issues that matter most to the people of Sarawak.

The TSI Public Speaking Competition is expected to attract a diverse array of participants, each armed with unique insights into the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for Sarawak.
