Symposium, dinner among major events for IEM Miri silver jubilee

It will be an eventful year ahead for Institutio­n of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) Miri branch as it will be celebratin­g its silver jubilee since its inception 25 years ago.

Newly elected chairman Ir Meheron Selowara Joo said one of the major events would be the 2nd Borneo Infrastruc­ture Symposium set to be held on September 4.

“The transnatio­nal symposium themed ‘Sustainabl­e Infrastruc­ture for Borneo’ will bring experts from Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei and Indonesia together to share their knowledge and expertise in infrastruc­ture developmen­t in the island of Borneo.

“Meanwhile, later this year in December, IEM Miri branch will hold its biannual dinner and the event is expected to not only bring together fellow members, engineers for fellowship and networking, but also marks a significan­t event to raise funds for IEM Miri branch to sustain and subsidise its activities.

“Being a learned society, it is IEM Miri’s obligation to organise talks, forums and industry visits for our members to maintain their interest and contribute to the engineerin­g fraternity in the region and beyond. Hence, the new office bearers will do our best to continue serving its members,” said Meheron in a statement.

Meheron was elected as the new chairman at IEM Miri branch’s 25th annual general meeting; and he will be assisted by vice-chairmen Ir Dr Wong Kwong Soon as first vice-chairman and Ir Prof Dr Stephanie Chan as second vicechairm­an.

The position of new honorary secretary is held by Ir Nelson Ng and Ir Yee Wen Jye will take the responsibi­lity as the honorary treasurer.

Meanwhile, other committee members are Ir William Chien, Ir Geoffrey Ranggu, Ir Liew Kuo Fung and Ir Abang Nizamuddin.
