Call on govt agencies to help attract youths to entrepreneurship

-

The state government has always encouraged young Sarawakians to embrace entrepreneurship and actively contribute to the economy by pursuing exciting ventures, instead of remaining passive.

In making this call, however, Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang also calls upon the local authorities and other government agencies to provide support to the young entrepreneurs such as facilitating the process of business licence registration and other relevant processes for the start-ups.

He told reporters this when met after officiating at the ‘The Prince Commercial Centre Walkabout Ceremony 2024’ here yesterday.

“If obtaining a licence would take months or require a significant financial investment, this might deter these young entrepreneurs from pursuing their plans.

“Thus, I would like to encourage agencies, the councils, and the government offices to facilitate such processs.

“For example, if these young people are willing to invest into equipment and premises, and use their own funds to purchase ingredients, we should provide them with encouragement and grant them the necessary licences,” he said.

Lo added that such support would serve as a platform for new young business owners to engage in trading, stressing the importance of fostering positive entrepreneurship.

“They, in turn, will make positive contributions to our economy.

“It is known that many small businesses have the potential to expand into franchises, similar to many successful names in the fast-food industry,” he said.

Lo also highlighted that the mindset of Sarawak’s youths had significantly improved in terms of maintaining cleanliness.
