MP demands full legal action against alleged sexual predator

-

Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii is calling for the full force of the law to be taken against a 30-year-old man who was recently arrested following an attempt to abduct an eightyear-old girl outside her house here.

“There cannot be any compromises when it comes to the safety of our children, to not only protect them from the harm of abduction, but also from possible sexual predators like the alleged culprit, who had admitted that he was a sex maniac,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Dr Yii said he read in horror the account of the incidents by the family in their social media post, adding that no parent should ever go through such a traumatising event.

“We should be able to live in a society that is safe for our children to play in our backyard and even with our neighbours without the fear of such a threat to our innocent children.

“That is the Kuching that we grew up in and we all must play our part to protect it for the good of all families living here in Kuching,” he said.

He extended his gratitude to the police and all authorities as well as members of the public for their swift action in apprehending the suspect.

Dr Yii also appealed to all to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

Moreover, the MP said that the recent case must not be taken lightly.

“We will continue to have dialogues and work with the authorities and urge them to increase their patrol and safety initiatives in order to build the confidence of the public on the safety of our surroundings,” he said.
