Sejambak Raya 2024 brings cheer to underprivileged Muslim community in Sarikei

-

SIBU: A total of 357 Muslims from the underprivileged groups in Sarikei were treated to a ‘buka puasa’ (break-of-fast) event hosted by the Ministry for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak.

They are among the recipients of the monthly welfare assistance listed under the ministry’s ‘Sejambak Kasih Hari Raya’ charity programme for this year.

According to deputy minister Datuk Mohamad Razi Sitam, the ministry has allocated RM14,260 for this programme, whereby the recipients are given cash aid for them to buy their necessities for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“The Sarikei Welfare Office has also given additional RM100 in cash and a hamper worth RM80 to bring festive cheer to each of the recipients,” he said at the event, held in Dewan Sri Nyelong in Sarikei yesterday.

The Sejambak Kasih Hari Raya 2024, he added, was also being carried out in Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.

Mohamad Razi later called upon all parties from both the public and private sectors to be involved in this charitable cause aimed at improving the people’s wellbeing.

“It is hoped that this programme could forge closer rapport between the community leaders and the people.

“Community leaders play an important role as a bridge between the people and the government agencies, and I believe there are more out there who are in need of assistance,” he said.

The deputy minister then disclosed that the Welfare Department had allocated a total of RM38,917,100 in welfare aid to 11,121 recipients last year.

The federal government, he said, had also distributed a total of RM216,010,750 to 56,169 recipients that same year.
