Malaysia surpasses global average happiness level – Research
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has shown a steady increase in its level of happiness from 2020 to 2023 and surpassed the global level this year, indicating a significant improvement in overall happiness among Malaysians, according to market research company Ipsos.
Based on its ‘Happiness Index by Countries’, Malaysia’s happiness level stands at 77 per cent, which is higher than the 30country average of 71 per cent.
Ipsos public affairs research manager Atticus Poon says personal relationships, connection to nature, and education attainment are the top contributors to life happiness for many people.
“Malaysians, in particular, derived more satisfaction from their familial relationship compared to other countries.
“While people around the world found that the economic and socio-political situations in their countries less satisfying, Malaysians are generally more satisfied than the global average,” he said in a report yesterday.
According to the report, 91 per cent of Malaysians are satisfied with their children, higher than the global average of 84 per cent, while 88 per cent are satisfied with their relationship with partners or spouses, higher than the global average of 83 per cent.
In addition, 42 per cent of Malaysians are satisfied with the social and political situation in the country compared to the global average of 39 per cent, while 50 per cent of Malaysians are satisfied with the economic situation in the country, higher than the global average of 40 per cent.
The Ipsos survey involved 24,269 online adults under the age of 75 across 30 countries. — Bernama
